Giving Green

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, a great chance to support organizations that you care about. December 2 is also the day on the Living Lightly Family Advent Calendar when I suggest researching some organizations you’d like to donate to this year. (Let’s pretend I planned it that way on purpose!)

So here is a list of some organizations I would suggest that are doing great things for our planet! Check them out and decide if you’d like to donate a little green tomorrow!

Sierra Club

I love this organization and raised funds for them this April in honor of Earth Day. In their own words from their website: “The Sierra Club is the most enduring and influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States. We amplify the power of our 3.5+ million members and supporters to defend everyone’s right to a healthy world.”

The Nature Conservancy

They faced some issues this year as the #MeToo movement swept through, outing two executives. But the organization itself does good work, and I don’t want the terrible actions of a few people to derail the good they are doing in the world. Don’t be afraid to support this organization. They could probably use it this year. Here are their own words about what they do: “The Nature Conservancy is tackling some of the toughest problems facing people and nature today, replicating good ideas to save many places and improve people’s lives. We are grounded by local experience and leverage our science, real-world solutions and partnerships to influence global decision-making.”

Environmental Defense Fund

I love their approach: coming at environmental issues from many angles since they recognize the interconnectedness of our planet. In their own words: “We believe prosperity and environmental stewardship must go hand in hand. We’re optimists, because we have seen smart ideas make a huge difference. And we build strong partnerships across interests to ensure lasting success. We address today’s most urgent environmental challenges. Working in partnership with others, we focus where we’re best positioned to help, based on our strengths.”

There are many more worthy organizations out there doing good work! See what you can find, and help advance their work to save our planet! If we all get in the game, we can make a big difference!
